What is CBD?
---
CBD is an abbreviation for "cannabidiol" and is found in hemp .
It is one of hundreds of compounds, which is called "cannabinoid."
CBD has been recognized by the WHO as having no addictive or psychoactive effects, and it has been shown to stimulate the ECS, a body regulation function that is naturally present in the cells of living organisms. It acts on the End Cannabinoid System (ECS) and is known to normalize a variety of disorders within the body.
It is gaining attention in the medical and beauty fields as it is expected to have the effect of normalizing the autonomic nervous system and skin .

What is End Cannabinoid System (ECS)?
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a regulatory system in the body that uses endogenous cannabinoids produced naturally in our bodies and plays a very important role in maintaining balance throughout the body.
The ECS functions mainly through two types of cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2.
CB1 receptors are mainly found in the brain and central nervous system and are involved in cognitive function, emotional regulation and neuroprotection, while CB2 receptors are mainly found on immune cells and play an important role in reducing inflammation and regulating the immune system.
The functions of the endocannabinoid system are diverse and involve the regulation of the following biological functions.
1. Cognitive & Neurological Functions
Regulates cognitive functions of the brain, such as memory formation, learning ability and
decision-making ability, and improves functioning in everyday life.
2. Appetite & Metabolism
Stimulates appetite and balances food intake and energy expenditure, thereby regulating
weight management and metabolic rate.
3. Pain & Inflammation Management
Reduces pain sensation and helps control chronic inflammation. This can aid injury recovery
and improve the quality of life of patients with chronic pain.
4. Sleep & Wakefulness
Regulates sleep cycles and promotes good sleep, as well as maintaining wakefulness
when needed.
5. Immune Function
It regulates the activity of the immune system and protects the body from pathogens.
6. Wmotional Balance & Stress Coping
Important for emotional stability and coping with stress and can relieve excessive stress
and anxiety.
7.Thermoregulation & Anti-ageing
Not only is it involved in maintaining body temperature, but it also helps prevent ageing
by slowing down the cellular ageing process.
Movement of certification by WHO and sports community
In 2017, an expert committee of the World Health Organisation (WHO) issued a report on CBD, stating that it is generally safe and has low harmful effects. The following year, in 2018, the WHO officially released a report indicating that CBD has low dependency potential and does not cause public health problems. This accelerated the move towards legalisation in many countries for medical use only.
In the sporting world, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) policy is of particular importance.
In 2018, WADA removed CBD from the list of prohibited substances.
THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and other cannabinoids remain banned.
This allows athletes to use CBD products that do not contain THC and are used for pain management and recovery support.
National sports organisations and leagues are also updating their own doping rules in accordance with WADA policies.
Major League Baseball (MLB) and the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the USA have permitted the use of CBD.
International awareness of CBD and its treatment in the sporting world has evolved significantly in recent years, and changes in the scope and regulation of its use will continue to be closely monitored.
